NSD Cedar

Cedar is currently with her adult raiser. She has started University and goes to NSD for training 5 days a week. When not at NSD, she learns how to settle, cuddle and continue to be a welcomed member of the community. This training will help prepare her to be matched with her client.

All of the training and care provided to each dog would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers and donors.

Training Updates

Cedar is a very sweet girl who is growing quite the personality. She is very willing to learn new things and is very interested in everything that is happening around her. House training is going very well and she is working hard on loose lease walking and learning “leave it”. Cedar now sleeps through the night in her crate but needs to learn that although it is getting light outside earlier wake-up time is not before 6 am. We had a very successful first public outing at Lowe’s Cambridge and we look forward to more in the future.

Cedar is a very sweet girl who likes to work and keep busy. She loves to learn new things and loves people, especially children. She is working very hard to contain her excitement and to learn to settle for longer periods. She recently put this into practice at a meet and greet at the YWCA day camp where she got to meet lots of children and leaders. She was very tired afterwards.

Cedar continues to work hard on learning to settle for extended periods. She is doing very well at her public outings and recently attended a live streaming of an opera that lasted 3 1/2 hours. Cedar has become a popular member of our church community and is missed when she is not there. She has been to a concert and out to several restaurants and has behaved extremely well. We are working diligently to control her excitement around the other dogs in class and when meeting exciting people.

NSD Cedar continues to work on settling in public with increasing distractions and separation from her handler. She attends church and rehearsals for a large choir on a regular basis. She loves people and is working really hard to sit nicely for her meet and greets. It is hard sometimes because some people are just extra excited. NSD Cedar loves to learn new things and tries so hard to please. She also loves to snuggle.

Cedar is such a good girl and is a quick learner! She has been adjusting well to her new home and has shown impressive elevator manners (lots of eye contact, sitting, and waiting to enter and leave). We have been working on loose leash walking, mat, and leave it. Cedar loves her toys, especially her new Kong tire! We can’t wait to get her vest so she can practice settling at work!

Cedar is a bubbly and energetic girl! She loves everyone and just wants to play with them all and give them love. She is also very smart and her adult raiser thinks she’s going to go to post-secondary school! At her last HS class, we were working on loose leash walking outside (which is really hard with so many friends around and all the outdoor smells… and grass!) and down stays. Cedar has been getting so much better at going up stairs (which are pretty scary), and mastered back and chin! We are working on step and settling outside in distracting areas.

Cedar has been actively learning at University. They have been learning resiliency with their basic obedience; settling in the kennel, heeling, food refusal and dog distraction. They have also been working hard and learning expectations with handler transfers. The training team is excited to continue to build on these excellent foundation behaviours, by helping Cedar transfer these skills into the community.

Miss Cedar is spunky and full of energy! She is definitely shown to be a go-getter and is always ready to work.
