“After an afternoon of Team Training at NSD, Scotty and I headed home to what would prove to be another life-changing moment. The death of my wife in 2020 and then River, my adult son Matthew’s retired NSD service dog. River died one year ago in February. His loss compounded the grief Matt and I were still struggling with. Scotty would be the panacea.
After entering the house, I dropped Scotty’s leash and let him check out the house. When I opened the door to Matt’s bedroom, Scotty dashed by me and straight to Matthew, who was still sleeping. There was no shortage of happy wet kisses on Scotty’s part, and there were plenty of genuine smiles and hugs from Matthew. He was elated. Their bond was instantaneous. Scotty continues to bring us joy and smiles, where there haven’t been in some time. Although Matt and I still experience grief with our loss, Scotty has, and continues to, delight Matt, me and everyone he meets.”
