National Service Dogs (NSD) is issuing an urgent call for volunteers across the Waterloo and Wellington regions to support its service dog programs. To continue providing life-changing service dogs free of charge, NSD is seeking dedicated individuals for three vital volunteer roles:
Puppy Raisers: Foster 8-week-old puppies until they are 20-22 months old. Raisers handle basic obedience, public exposure (workplace, dining, transit), and attend regular NSD training sessions.
- Adult Raisers: Provide temporary, structured home environments for adult dogs during their advanced training phases or breeding cycles, maintaining house rules outside of formal training hours.
- Whelping Home Volunteers: Host pregnant brood bitches in their home, assist during the birth process, and provide a safe, nurturing environment for both mom and litter during the puppy’s first eight weeks of life.
Volunteers receive continuous support, training classes, and specialized workshops (including pet first aid) from the NSD team.
