dogs in training
NSD Rosebud
I am currently in High School. I go to class once a month to learn how to be a great service dog in the future.
All of the training and care provided to each dog would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers and donors.

Woof! Woof!
(Hello!)
Breed: Labrador x Golden Retriever
Gender: Female
Date of Birth: April 3, 2024
Sire: LFCDG Kody
Dam: NSD Jan
Litter: W Litter
Puppy Sponsor: Shelley Sheridan – A rose is a beautiful flower found in garden soil among other colourful plants. It cannot live in the dry desert or a harsh climate like a strong, resilient cactus. Rosebud received her name to represent new growth and new beginnings in a garden. With strong roots, a bit of water and fertilizer, a rosebud will flourish and becomes a beautiful rose with colourful petals. With lots of love, wonderful training and this amazing community, Rosebud will flourish, find her way in the service world and positively impact a lot of lives along the way.

Rosebud 's Updates

October 2024

I am in grade school now and learn more specific skills that will help shape me into a future service dog. Some of these skills include 'under', 'mat', and 'near'. I have also been practicing these new skills, loose leash walking and meet and greets while remaining focused on their handlers. I have so much fun going on trips to the grocery store, libraries, restaurants, and recreational centres with my puppy raiser. As part of grade school, I will also get to swap houses with one of my littermates for two weeks and work with a new handler.

December 2024

I will be 9 months old in January! I am currently taking a break from my training classes for the holidays and am excited to be moving to NSD High School in the new year. This i where I will get to learn so many more skills and continue working towards becoming a future life-changer. Wish me luck! And thank you for supporting my journey so far!

May 2025

I am now in high school classes! I’m really starting to get the hang of this service dog thing, so my puppy raiser takes me to lots of new and exciting places to practice. I am also learning new advanced skills such as 'back,' 'touch,' 'chin,' and stepping on the perch pot. In class, I practice stairs and different under-footings and work for new and different handlers. This is an important step in preparing me for the next phase of my training. At home, I am polishing up my manners around meal times, guests, and outdoor walks. Now that I have more impulse control, I get to have more freedom around the house and get to sleep out of my crate some nights. My trainers have this to say about me: "Rosebud has been working on lots of positive exposure and gentle guidance. She is learning that new things can be fun, not scary. Small steps now are setting the stage for bigger things later!"
