National Service Dogs Accreditations

  • NSD is proud to be accredited by Assistance Dogs International (ADI) since 2000.
  • ADI sets the bar for excellence in the global assistance dog industry, focusing on improving training, placement, and utilization of these dogs. Additionally, ADI emphasizes ongoing education and management practices for staff and volunteers.

  • NSD actively participates in knowledge sharing through regular meetings, seminars, and collaborative efforts.
  • These efforts include public education about assistance dogs and disability rights, establishing training standards and ethical guidelines, and managing client care programs.

  • NSD’s commitment to quality extends to our rigorous dog selection process.
  • We screen for exceptional health, temperament, and working ability. Upon successful completion of ADI’s rigorous standards, NSD certifies Service Dog and Facility Dog Teams. This includes passing the Public Access Test, ensuring safe and well-mannered canine companions.

  • NSD retains ownership of all active service and facility dogs to ensure the best possible outcomes for both dogs and clients.
  • This allows us to provide ongoing follow-up care, recertification, and aftercare – all at no cost to our clients.

National Service Dogs secured accreditation through the rigorous Standards Program shortly after its launch in 2013. This distinction places NSD among a select group of Canadian charities: Only 200 out of 85,000 have achieved such recognition.

Earning accreditation demonstrates excellence and leadership in five key areas:

  • Board Governance
  • Financial Accountability & Transparency
  • Fundraising Practices
  • Staff Management
  • Volunteer Engagement
