Norton is currently with his puppy raiser. He is being taught a foundation of house manners and cues, for becoming a well-socialized part of the community.
All of the training and care provided to each dog would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers and donors.

Norton is a very smart, sweet, affectionate, inquisitive pup who loves to play, sniff, explore, and especially cuddle. When not playing with his puppy raiser he is great at finding appropriate things to do to keep himself entertained and is often happy just laying down on his bed watching TV or watching the world go by. During the workday when not sleeping in his crate he likes to calmly lay on his office bed, play with his stuffies, or watch his adult raiser while he works. Norton is very good at sitting, especially when he thinks there might be a treat or opportunity to go outside waiting for him. He is currently working on the reliability of his down, off, mat and wait cues. Norton is getting REALLY good at sitting on the back mat whenever he needs to “hurry up” which is helping him to avoid any accidents.
Norton is quickly maturing into a confident, independent, good boy with each week. He has been fully house-trained for the past 3+ months, understands all of his cues, is always very well behaved in public and is great with loose leash walking. Over the past month, he’s been getting more and more freedom to roam around the house on his own and is requiring less and less supervision because of his good house manners. Despite being free to roam the house during the day, he mostly prefers to sleep at his puppy raiser’s feet or play with his toys next to him while he works. Norton is extremely attentive, great at eye contact, very engaged when training and always more than happy to get treats for a job well done. With the warmer weather he’s been enjoying walks along trails, and playing with his other canine friends. With regards to training, he is very good around loud distractions such as stormy weather, fireworks, traffic, kids playing, and other dogs. This summer Norton will be going on a holiday up north where he will get to play with kids, be outside, swim, boat, and live in a setting with a bit more activity going on and distractions. Norton is on Instagram and can be followed at @nsd_norton.
Norton continues to be a confident, intelligent cuddle bug. He’s excellent at learning new cues and loves to work, especially when there’s food involved! Over the summer, Norton has had the opportunity to experience visiting crowded public places, fireworks, swimming, boat rides, meeting farm animals, playing with and greeting kids of all ages, meeting his sponsors, and lots of ‘sniff-aries’! Norton has excellent leash manners and has recently started puppy high school. Going forward Norton will be working on settling around other dogs and hosting some of his fellow four-legged NSD friends for puppy-sitting sleepovers.
