NSD Roxy

Roxy is currently with her adult raiser. She has started University and goes to NSD for training 5 days a week. When not at NSD, she learns how to settle, cuddle and continue to be a welcomed member of the community. This training will help prepare her to be matched with her client.

All of the training and care provided to each dog would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers and donors.

Training Updates

Roxy is 7 months old already and has settled in nicely with her Puppy Raiser family. She is currently at the Grade School level of her training where she is attending weekly puppy classes and learning new skills at home such as, staying home alone outside of her crate and adding mild distractions to her day (such as the vacuum, other animals, throwing toys, etc.). In a few months, she will begin high school and be one step closer to becoming a Service Dog!

Roxy is an absolute snuggle monster who loves people so very much. She always wants to be with her humans going on adventures and getting belly rubs. She has just started going to the gym regularly with her humans and is the best girl waiting patiently while they lift things up and put them back down. She is an A+ good girl in her jacket!

Roxy turned 1 this September and her big day was celebrated with peanut butter, salmon skins, a party hat, and a big game of fetch with some friends. Roxy is already such a polite and smart girl for only being 1 year old. We are so proud of her and how far she has come in just 12 months!

Roxy has been settling in with her adult raiser very well. She is a sweet pup willing to try new things and loves to learn new skills. She is extremely patient when waiting for her food and stays out of the kitchen on her mat when food for humans is being prepared. She is currently working on perfecting her stays and settling in public or while at “work”, as well as working on NEAR and STEP. Roxy loves her walks in nature when she can just have fun and explore and she loves to cuddle.

Roxy has been accepted into NSD University as part of our 2022 Fall class!

Roxy is a lovely pup that loves to play, cuddle and learn. Roxy continues to work on mastering the basic skills while learning some new ones like “back”, walking on the right side of the handler, and hind end awareness. Roxy has accompanied me to work on a few occasions and has been a big hit brightening everyone’s workday. Roxy will be starting university in June. Looking forward to seeing what the future brings for her!

Roxy is confident, calm, and sweet. She has been working hard while in University. In the past few weeks, Roxy has been working on generalizing newly acquired skills such as ‘nudge’ and ‘lap’. She has also been improving reliability when it comes to previously acquired cues such as ‘mat’ and ‘under’. The training team, in collaboration with the adult raisers, is continuing to work with Roxy on settling, cuddling, body handling, and grooming.
Roxy is well suited for NSD’s PTSD program and we hope to see her continue on this career path.

Roxy will be graduating as a PTSD Service Dog. She will be matched with her client and they will complete their team training in November.

Roxy has officially been placed as a PTSD Service Dog! Congratulations team Roxy!
