NSD Rocky

Rocky is currently with his adult raiser. He has started University and goes to NSD for training 5 days a week. When not at NSD, he learns how to settle, cuddle and continue to be a welcomed member of the community. This training will help prepare him to be matched with his client.

All of the training and care provided to each dog would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers and donors.

Training Updates

Rocky is a happy lovable pup who loves the outdoors! His house manors have come along nicely, with outside being more of a challenge. We are working on our loose leash walking and door rushing currently but we’ll get there!

Rocky is a smart, affectionate boy who loves to learn. He is a very calm and happy pup indoors and is learning to transfer his excellent house manners to the great outdoors 😃

Rocky has just turned one and continues to impress us daily! He has recently been hard at work learning to control his enthusiasm when someone knocks at the door 😃 Rocky is looking forward to getting rid of his post neuter surgery cone and getting back out in public!

NSD Rocky has been partnered with his adult raiser since the 4th of November. Rocky has settled into his new routines very well, he enjoys long leash walks along the Grand River, and exploring the walking paths around his home as well as ‘work.’ Rocky has the pleasure of coming to work with his adult raiser daily, to a Long Term Care Home and has become a welcomed addition to the allied professional team. Rocky weathered our 5th wave of Covid without any issues, enjoying the visits from staff on their breaks and providing window visits for the residents while he romped in the ever-deepening snow. This smart boy has been working on his chin, perch, and loose leash walking. Rocky has also had the chance to attend Sunday School with a small group of preschoolers and has been very attentive to the lessons. During the most recent lockdown, Rocky also assisted in the floor exercises of zoom bootcamp, helping hold down his adult raiser while working on push-ups and crunches. Rocky continues to grow and explore and pursue adventures created by himself or those humans around him.

Rocky has been accepted into NSD University as part of our 2022 Fall class!

NSD Rocky was accepted into NSD University at the start of March and is now eagerly waiting for the first day of school. Rocky has lived through Wave Number 6 with his Adult Raiser, not missing a day of work, and keeping the morale up with his silly playful antics as his ‘Grand Friends’ spent more time in their rooms isolating and trying to keep Covid-19 from spreading. NSD Rocky has also continued to get into the festive spirit of the seasons, dressing for St. Patrick’s Day, showing the preschoolers how to do an excellent Hosannah Palm Branch Parade, and now his big thing is to hide in the tall grasses. His most recent accomplishments were rocking his calm and focus during our time out at the Mennonite Relief Sale, where we waited in lines, visited with so many people and worked around a lot of other dog distractions.

Rocky is energetic, bold, and sweet. He has been working hard while in University. In the past few weeks, Rocky has been working on generalizing newly acquired skills such as ‘hug’ and ‘lap’. He has also been improving reliability when it comes to previously acquired cues such as ‘mat’ and ‘under’. The training team, in collaboration with the adult raisers, is continuing to work with Rocky on settling, cuddling, body handling, and grooming.
Rocky is very well suited for NSD’s Autism Program and we hope to see him continue on this career path.
