NSD Reece

Reece is currently with her adult raiser. She has started University and goes to NSD for training 5 days a week. When not at NSD, she learns how to settle, cuddle and continue to be a welcomed member of the community. This training will help prepare her to be matched with their client.

All of the training and care provided to each dog would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers and donors.

Training Updates

I have been with NSD for just about two years now. NSD Reece is my second puppy to raise. She is hilarious. Super smart little ball of light who is always so excited to learn. She picks up commands fairly well with practice and lots of treats. This little beauty will do just about anything for apples and peanut butter!! While out playing with other pups she likes to hide between my legs until she’s confident enough to have a little run and wrestle, then back between my legs again for safekeeping. She loves to show off her favourite toys and while doing so, gives her whole body wiggles until you have acknowledged the great toy. She absolutely loves VIP Gordie and her other sister Torren.. and she loves following the cat around the house. She is an absolute joy!

Reece is almost 1 year old, with her birthday coming up on September 20.
She is super cuddly still and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
She’s incredibly perceptive to human emotion and always knows when she’s needed!
Reece thoroughly enjoys walks, and chasing after her pet siblings (don’t let her little legs fool you, she’s faster than we think.)
Her favourite high-value treat every day is ice cubes! She goes CRAZY for ice!
She’s not much of a water dog, but she will swim if her humans are in with her.
She’s currently working on her “spin” command which she’s picked up fast!
Every day when I come home from work, she greets me at the door with one of her bones/toys and has a whole body wiggle to show you what she has.
Reece is an absolute joy!!

Reece is an absolute joy. She loves to snuggle and be close to you at all times. She loves to show off her toys and has the most adorable whole body wiggle when she’s excited to show you. Reece is currently working on her “spin” command as well as getting her “under” down pat. She loves walks, running in the park and healthy snack foods like fresh veggies. She just celebrated her first birthday!

Reece is very sweet and loves to be close to you all the time. She is calm, but also likes to play with her toys and loves to bring them to you when you arrive home. She is mastering her “calm cookie” exercise where she waits patiently for treats to come to her and takes them gently and is working on the STEP skill as well. She still needs to be reminded to stay on her mat when I am cooking but does a great job at waiting for her food patiently.

Reece has been accepted into NSD University as part of our 2022 Fall class!

Reece has been accepted to university and is starting in June. She is loyal, hardworking and a very sweet girl, eager to learn new things. She goes to work with her adult raiser on a daily basis and always remains calm. Everyone at work says she is so calm and gentle. When someone enters the office, she demonstrates she can hold a down-stay on her mat and also wait on her mat when her raiser goes to someone else’s office down the hall for a few minutes. She successfully attended a showcase event at work and she did excellently and also went with her raiser to a physiotherapy appointment, where she stayed calm, despite all the distractions of a new environment. We have been practicing going up and down stairs, chin, touch, back and she is getting really good at walking without using the gentle leader. She went on a trip to Ottawa where she visited some big stores and went for long walks on trails.

Reece is gentle, calm, and sweet. She has been working hard while in University. In the past few weeks, Reece has been working on generalizing newly acquired skills such as ‘nudge’ and ‘lap’. She has also been improving reliability when it comes to previously acquired cues such as ‘mat’ and ‘under’. The training team in collaboration with the adult raisers is continuing to work with Reece on settling, cuddling, body handling, and grooming.
Reece is deciding between NSD’s PTSD program and NSD’s Canine Assisted Intervention Program as her possible career paths.
