Puppy Raisers Needed

CAMBRIDGE, ON – National Service Dogs (NSD), leading Certified Service Dog provider of programs for Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD), Autism, and Canine Assisted Intervention, welcomed 14 puppies into their program this June.  As a result NSD is in need of volunteer puppy raisers to care for and train Golden and Labrador retriever puppies for their first 18 months.

National Service Dogs’ breeding program has been producing quality service dogs for 17 years and is considered to be one of the best in North America.  Dogs are bred for the specific temperament and physicality required to be working with individuals with complex needs.  They require two years of training to qualify as accredited working dogs.

At age eight weeks, puppies are placed with volunteer puppy raisers who care for them for their first 18 months. Raisers are required to attend weekly puppy classes with NSD trainers to learn basic obedience and skills.  The program is best suited to active people living within a 45 km radius of Cambridge or London, who can keep up with the demands of an energetic puppy and provide them with a loving home, gentle socializing, and a healthy amount of exercise.  Individuals wishing to apply for the program should visit NSD’s website at www.nsd.on.ca for details or contact cathyk@nsd.on.ca directly.
