NSD is primarily a volunteer-based organization. We could not exist without the hard work and dedication of our 175 plus volunteers. These individuals donate their valuable time and energy to:

Exercise and Message Dogs
Monday through Thursday evenings volunteers walk the dogs in advanced training, groom and massage them. This one on one down time gives the dogs the opportunity to relax and get ready for bed.

Weekend Sitting
Weekend Sitters take the dogs home each Friday afternoon and give them a nice relaxing weekend in a quiet home environment. The dogs return Sunday evening rested and ready to go for Monday.

Fundraising
Volunteers are needed to assist with various fund raising events. These include our annual Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs, Motorcycle Ride, Pumpkinfest, mall shows, etc. The volunteers work with our staff to ensure the success of each of these events.

Building Maintenance
Volunteers assist with general painting and repairs, assisting to build kennels, electrical work and plumbing, mowing and gardening. If you have a few hours and love to tinker with things, this would be perfect for you.

The qualifications are simple: we are looking for people who have a couple hours to spare and extra love to share. If you have a couple of hours once a week, once every two weeks or once in a while, we can use your help.

Each year NSD recognizes the outstanding contributions of our volunteers at our annual open house. The Shade, Brodie, Danielle Forbes, Chris Fowler and Heather Fowler awards are presented to volunteers in all areas of NSD.
