NSD Captain

Captain is currently with his adult raiser. He has started University and goes to NSD for training 5 days a week. When not at NSD, he learns how to settle, cuddle and continue to be a welcomed member of the community. This training will help prepare him to be matched with his client.

All of the training and care provided to each dog would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers and donors.

Training Updates

NSD Captain is loyal, obedient, hardworking, intelligent, gentle, fond of human interaction and eager to please. We have been working daily with NSD Captain on sit, down, eye contact, loose leash walking, sit on the dog, elevator exposure, sit and release. He has accomplished all those skills so far!

Captain continues to be a loving puppy eager to try new things. We’ve been working on walking in public places and remaining calm when he sees other dogs. He loves to explore new places and meet new people. He is excellent with his gentle leader and almost as great with just a flat collar. He loves to play with water but won’t tip you over if you are on a paddleboard.

NSD Captain continues to show a remarkable ability to follow direction. He is a puppy full of love, very calm and eager to play with other dogs. He gets along with everyone. He is excellent with his gentle leader and almost as great with a flat collar. He loves his kennel and is very independent most of the time. NSD Captain is ready to go to the next level and learn new cues.

NSD Captain is a fantastic dog – he loves his training and learns very quickly. He knows how to follow cues. He has no problem riding in the car and is very relaxed. In public places, he does an excellent job and can be in the under position for several hours without any problem. He has no trouble relating to adults, children, and other dogs. He can walk with different people and follow their instructions. NSD Captain is ready to go to the next level. He is a brilliant dog.

Moved to Adult Raiser home and has settled in nicely. Goes to work every day with Adult Raiser and is doing very well. Continuing to work on skills and building relationships with all members in the home. Captain is very gentle with our family dog, loves to play and is enjoying time outside on the deck and in the yard.

Captain continues to work on his skills in new places with new distractions including loose leash walking and “leave it/drop it”. We have been to the lake, the gym, lots of walks and enjoy sleeping on the deck while the raiser reads in the hammock. He goes to work with the adult in our home and continues to be social and gentle with everyone. Captain has been helping with events at work and does a great job with his skills in these various highly stimulating situations. Everyone smiles when they see him and he continues to be a welcome part of our team! He just loves kids and quickly seeks them out when kids are around. Captain continues to provide great energy to our home and where ever we are!

Captain has been actively learning at University. They have been learning resiliency with their basic obedience; settling in the kennel, heeling, food refusal and dog distraction. They have also been working hard and learning expectations with handler transfers. The training team is excited to continue to build on these excellent foundation behaviours, by helping Captain transfer these skills into the community.

Captain is doing very well! He is already off his tether and loves to offer a chin and give us his “worry” eyes.
