DIY Dog Treats

It’s National Cook for Your Pet Day! Whether you are an amateur in the kitchen or a well-seasoned chef there are lots of fun recipes to try with your furry friend! Here are two great recipes to try out.

Frozen Apple Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples, cored and cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup plain greek yogurt
  • water

Mix all the ingredients together with a blender until smooth, adding water one tablespoon at a time until a liquid consistency is achieved. Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. Once they are frozen you can use them as a special treat or place them in a treat stuff toy such as a Kong.

Easy Two-Ingredient Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 (4oz) jars of pureed baby food such as blueberry, sweet potato or chicken. *Make sure to read the ingredients and avoid dangerous foods such as grapes, onions, and garlic. A full list of foods to avoid can be found here.

Preheat oven to 350°. Mix ingredients together to form a stiff dough. Add extra flour or water as needed. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out evenly until it’s about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut into the desired shape or a pizza cutter to make cubes. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, place treats about 1/2 inch apart. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes. Allow to cool completely before storing in a paper bag (storing in an air-tight container will make them soft, but they’re still edible).
